Art Drills: The Not-So-Exciting Secret to Getting Better
Let’s be honest—drills, practice, skill-honing… yawn, yawn. It’s not exactly the most thrilling part of being an artist. But here’s the thing: it works.
I recently dedicated a whole week to nothing but pure practice. No fancy art titles, no pressure to create a masterpiece—just layering, experimenting, and (attempting) to use colour harmony. And you know what? It was oddly freeing. Without the weight of expectation, I could just play with paint, make a mess, and actually learn something along the way.
The result? Well, I won’t say I cracked the code of perfect color balance, but I did walk away with fresh ideas and a sharper eye for composition. Plus, I had fun in a way I didn’t expect.
Moral of the story? Practice may not be glamorous, but it’s where the magic happens. Now, back to creating!
